who we are
Between us we have two Masters in Sustainable development and well over half a century of experience, nine languages and professional in-country experience in more than 20 countries. We are experts renewable energy and sustainable development, in creating new successful businesses, initiatives and programmes, testing and proving new concepts, and working with others to make great things happen.
Our combined experience gives us strong development links across Africa and Europe. The Kaboni team have advised on, developed and delivered energy projects in Cameroon, Dubai, Greece, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Spain, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia and are now focusing on Burundi.​
Phillip Stovold
Managing Director

Phillip has an MSc in Sustainable Development from SOAS, University of London and over 20 years experience working at the intersection of business and international development in Africa.
Phillip is working with Greenpeace creating Genervest and on the Common Power project and the Burundi government on the small utility programme there.

Jean-Marie Nibizi
Burundi Lead

Jean-Marie has been a lecturer, an executive director, a two-time CEO and founder and a facilitator of peace. Jean Marie is motivated by his compassion and love for his country - he wants to see Burundi thrive.​
Jean-Marie is supporting the government engagement and programme development process in Burundi.

Simon Redman
Operations Director

Simon is from an international finance background with more than 15 years’ experience working in senior operations and management roles.
He has also successfully managed procurement processes and renegotiated contracts and fee structures with third-party service providers.

Francois Pineaar
Advisor

A seasoned Chartered Electrical Engineer with a combination of energy and utility expertise in distribution and energy access and effective leadership.​He has 26 years of utility experience in roles from managing large complex electricity infrastructure projects to utility turnaround management contracts.

Théoneste Mpawenimana
Distribution Lead

Théoneste is an experienced linesman who has implemented low and medium voltage lines in networks across Burundi. He is also an experienced technician who has installed electrical systems in houses and commercial buildings. He is leading our pilot phase implementation of the distribution network in Giharo and also helping with household electricty installations. His family live in Bujumbura.

Janvier Harerimana
Household Electrics Lead

Janvier worked with Phillip in Rwanda and was trained as the first member of the team he hired there when he was establishing a team for mini-grid implementation. He had recently left the Mahama refugee camp and was looking for a way ahead. He learned the work he is doing now:  Household electricity installations and distribution line build. He is living with his new family in Giharo.
